With Less than 150 surviving copies of the remaining issues of Melanian News, these final editions are being offered as valuable historic Items exclusive to Northeast Pennsylvania. There has only ever been one autographed copy of the very first publication then called Melanian Newsletter; which is currently valued at $1,500.00 because this first print edition has no surviving copies and there will be no future reprints of it.
Aside from the full archived collection, there are less than 40 copies of only 5 issues that are available for sell for ONLY $20 per copy while they last! Copies will be signed by the publisher!
MELANIAN NEWS was owned, published and edited by a single working mother of 5 who challenged the racial climate of a community that openly identified African American’s as “Undesirables” when she first moved her family to Scranton from Newark, New Jersey in hopes for a better life.
MELANIAN NEWS impacted tremendous change during its published life; opening doors that had never been knocked on before, and bridging gaps that separated the white community from the black community for decades.
THIS IS A LIMITED-TIME OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A PIECE OF SCRANTON PA’s BLACK HISTORY: Melanian News may be gone but THE HISTORY STILL REMAINS … and SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
