The Greatest Speech Ever Made

One of the greatest speeches in recorded history was given by the first televised comedian of the silent movie era; Charlie Chaplin, in the 1940 American satirical comedy-drama film “The Great Dictator.”   Chaplin starred, wrote, produced, scored, and directed this unforgettable movie following the tradition of his many other films.  The Great Dictator was Chaplin’s first true talking picture production as well as his most commercially successful film.  At the time of its first release, the United States was still formally at peace with Nazi Germany. Chaplin’s film advanced a stirring, controversial[4] condemnation of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini‘s fascism, antisemitism, and the Nazis.
